Backpacking in RMNPStuff About Me

This is the homepage of Jay Stott, a writer, photographer and teacher in Boulder County, Colorado.

I live in North Central Colorado, near the suburban frontAll the girls at Cottonwood range, but in a small town that is a little bit out of the way. I live with my wife Lori, my daughter, Marin Joy (age 6), Millie and Daisy the dogs, and Quenton the moody cat. Though I am a transplant to Colorado, after twenty years of hanging out here on and off, and having lived in our present location for seven years, this feels pretty much like home.

I am lucky to have a job that allows me some chunks of freetime during the year, and we really enjoy exploring the West. We often take our camper to new and out-of -the-way places, but often we visit some of our old favorites as well. Below is our holiday picture from last year. It was taken in Arches National Park in Utah.

Family Photo

When we aren't busy with school and work, we really like to enjoy all the scenery that surounds us by hiking, camping, fishing, biking, and relaxing!

Brief Bio

I was born outside of Philadelphia, grew up in Minnesota, and have lived in upstate New York, Alaska, and Western Colorado over the past twenty years. That's me to the right, fishing in Wyoming with my best friend Chip.

Before becoming a teacher I worked in the ski industry in Colorado, and as a naturalist and guide in the adventure travel industry in Alaska.

I love teaching, writing and photography for the same reason- you don't always know where you are going, you don't always know when you get there, and you are rarely sure of where you are, but the journey is always interesting.
